Beaches

The local beaches are stunning, including Westward Ho!, Bucks Mills, and Hartland, and are all dog friendly. (Restrictions do apply during peak season, please check for each beach prior to your visit).

Westward Ho! Is particularly worth a visit, with its iconic pebble ridge and long sandy beach. At the South end of the beach you have the amusements, restaurants, ice cream vans and tourist gift shops. At the North end of the beach you have the pebble ridge, with stunning views of the sea and out for miles. This is also where Northam Burrows Country Park is, and where you will see sheep free-roaming! This is the perfect place for a family day out.

The Big Sheep

A family theme park with animals too! The Big Sheep was (and still is) a working farm, with their animals at the heart of everything they do. During your walk you’ll meet sheep and goats as well as alpacas, llamas and pigs. There may even be a few new additions you haven’t seen before. There are also rollercoasters and fairground rides for the children.

You can find out more here.

Clovelly

Clovelly clings to a 400 foot cliff in North Devon and has no vehicular traffic on its steeply cobbled street, just donkeys and sledges.

Visiting Clovelly is such a special experience. It is a beautiful picturesque fishing village, steeped in maritime atmosphere and history and was once owned by the Queen of England.

Its flower-strewn cottages “tumble like a waterfall” down a cleft in the cliff to the ancient working port.  There are breath taking views down-a-long the traffic-free high street. The street is unique with just its donkeys and sledges. And the working harbour, with its 14th century quay, is another scene to be captured as a treasured memory.
